The eighteenth Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead, London. The race was held over a 2½-mile course of one lap.


Miss Avery Gibson (N. Shield Polytechnic AC), the National Junior Cross-Country Champion, led all the way to win in 16:46 just 4 second ahead of runner-up Ruby Smith - nee Wright (St. Gregory's AC), Gibson got her more experienced rivals tailed-off up the hills. Third place went to Joyce Heath (Small Heath Harriers).


Birchfield Harriers ladies claimed their ninth victory out of the seventeen races held to date totalling 34 points to finish 18 points ahead of North Shields Polytechnic AC, with Ilford AC in third. Counters for Birchfield were Ivy Kibbler (5th), Zoe White (6th), veteran Mary Bartleet (9th) and M Harper (14th).
