Arrowe Park in Birkenhead hosted the seventh Junior English Cross-Country Championship. The grassland course was two large laps covering 6 miles and Western Command Signals Unit relayed the runner's progress.



J S Evans (Polytechnic Harriers) and Ken Caulder (Surrey AC) went to the front opening a gap on B Barrett (Surrey AC), Midland champion Basil Heatley (Coventry Godiva Harriers), J Pike (Westbury Harriers) and Northern champion D Wright (Bolton United Harriers). On the final lap Evans struggled and dropped back, Caulder took the win in 32:19 with B Barrett making it a one two for Surrey AC. Evans held on for third.



The Northern champions Sheffield United Harriers took the team title with a 21-point victory over Liverpool Pembroke Harriers. Woodford Green AC tied for second place on points but Liverpool Pembroke took second based on the position of their last scoring man.
