Whitley Abbey School in Coventry hosted the Junior Girl's National Cross-Country Championships. The course was one small and three-quarters of the large lap, the going was firm and the terrain was varied and included some hills.


At the end of the first small lap the leader was Jennifer Honick (Birchfield H) from S Parry (City of Stoke AC), On the second lap Julie Rainford (Bury & Radcliffe AC) worked her way to the front and with 200 yards to go led from from Shirley Swift (Gloucester AC). Rainford took gold with Swift silver and Mary Sonner overhauling Honick for bronze


City of Stoke-on-Trent AC beat Westbury Harriers by just 7 points in the team race with Rainford's Bury & Radcliffe AC third.
