The Pheasey, Great Barr in Birmingham hosted the seventh Youth's National Cross-Country Championships, the hilly and stony 3-mile course consisted of one large lap.
F J Wright (Belgrave Harriers), M J Bracey (Highgate Harriers), M R Tan (Thames Valley Harriers) and the Sheffield United Harriers pair, A Bargh and E Bell, were to the fore. When Dai Richards (Barry Grammar School) took the lead there wasn't much doubt that he would win. Richards won by 60 yards from runner-up Tom Anderson (North Shields Polytechnic Club) with Northern champion J Fairchild (Sheffield United Harriers) third.
