Godley, Hyde, Cheshire on Saturday 06/02/1954 (Junior Ladies)
The eighteenth Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place in Godley, Cheshire over a course of 21/4 miles, there were 101 entrants. 57 runners set off on the frozen course and Roma Ashby (Coventry Godiva) and Norah Smalley (Portsmouth Atalanta) had a ding-dong battle at the front of the race. In the last quarter mile Ashby pulled away from Smalley and went on to win by 23 seconds. S J Amey (Salisbury & District AC) was third. The Midlands dominated the team event with Birchfield Harriers edging Harborne Harriers by 8 points with Small Heath Harriers third.
