The twenty-first Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place at Hunnington, Halesowen over a two-and-a-quarter-mile course. The rain had made the course heavy and 78 runners were ready for the starter's pistol. Lynn Hayter (Southampton AC), the Southern Junior champion, went into the lead and was in front until the halfway point. Hayter was passed by Dorothy Bates (Mitcham AC), who went on to win by 50 yards. Hayter took silver and Susan Jarville (Hallamshire Harriers), the Northern Junior champion, was third a further 20 yards back.

London Olympiades Athletic Club won the team event for the first time in 24 years, last winning in 1933. London Olympiades, who won with 51 points, were followed by Highgate Harriers, 54 points, and Essex Ladies AC, 87 points. The winning team was P. Burridge (7th), E. Butcher (13th), M. Dick (14th), and S. Nutt (17th).
