The twenty-second Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place at St. Albans over a heavy 2¼ mile course.
At the end of the first lap Kent champion, Shirley Gaiger (Orpington AC), was in the lead, with Pauline Edwards (Middlesex. Ladies AC) second and Pam Fry (Ilford AC), Southern Junior champion, third. A hard and prolonged climb had to be negotiated on each lap, and on the second lap Pam Fry went ahead to win by 15 yards despite a strong challenge by Shirley Gaiger, while Ruby Pettit (Ilford AC) came through to take third place.
