The eleventh Junior English Cross-Country Championships took place at Arrowe Park, Birkenhead. The 6-mile course was two laps of the park and started and finished in front of the pavilion. Early in the race Alan Cocking (Bramley & District Harriers) was well to the fore and as the race progressed Cocking continued to increase his lead. At the halfway stage his lead was 150 yards and by the time Cocking crossed the line his winning margin was some 350 yards. R Campbell (Essex Beagles AC), the Southern champion, was the best of the rest in second place with Corcoran (Macclesfield Harriers) third.
