Shadwell Home Office School, Leeds, Yorkshire hosted the twenty-third Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship over a 2¼ mile course. Two days before the race parts of the course was six inches of water. However, on the day the race was run under perfect conditions. Pauline Edwards (Middlesex LAC), the Southern Junior Champion, took the lead soon after the start with Joy Jordan (Spartan Ladies AC) a close second. After the first lap was completed Edwards had increased her lead and went on to win in 16:47, 13 seconds clear of runner-up Sallie Newell (Sale Harriers). In third place was Pamela Evans (Selsonia Ladies AC) with Joy Jordan fourth.
