The twelfth Junior English Cross-Country Championships took place at the Hotpoint Recreation Club Ground, Fletton, Peterborough. The 6-mile two lap course was fast and flat and consisted of grassland and plough.
Ron Grove (Melton Mowbray AC) and Stan James (Middlesbrough & Cleveland Harriers) led for most of the race with Maurice Herriott (Sparkhill Harriers) chasing. On the last lap James went ahead to win by 60 yards. Herriott and Grove had a great battle on the run in with Herriott taking the silver medal.
