The twenty-fourth Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place at Sheldon, Birmingham over a 2¼ mile course. The course was made heavy by continuous rain. From the start Joy Jordan (Spartan Ladies AC) and two Mitcham AC girls, Anne Smith and Pat Brown pulled away from the other runners and were soon well ahead. After a mile, 24-year-old Jordan put on a spurt and went in front, going on to cross the line first in a time of 13:03. Anne Smith closed up over the last half mile to finish second in 13:20, 16 seconds ahead of club-mate Pat Brown, in third place.
