The twenty-seventh Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place at Halesowen, Birmingham. Runners had to put up with snow, ice and slush as one of the worst winters on record impacted the race. Because of the conditions only about 50 runners from seven clubs started. Individual winner in the very good time of 16:36 for the 2½ mile course was Anita Webb (Bilston Town AC). Webb led from the start and won by more than 100 yards. Runner-up was Val Tomlinson (Guildford & Godalming AC) with R Davies (Selsonia LAC) third.

There were complications in the team race as a protest was made against two Birchfield Harriers runners. The complaint against them by another club was that two of the Birchfield runners, M. Easson and R. Jordan, were ineligible to run. The referee ruled against them running, but the Birchfield club lodged a protest, and, according to association rules, the girls were able to take part. Both were placed and their successes gave the championship to Birchfield Harriers with forty points. Second were Westbury Harriers and third Hampstead Harriers.
