The thirtieth Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championship took place within the grounds of Caludon Castle School, Coventry. The 2½ mile course was three laps with two 1 mile loops and a final circuit of half a mile and was flat.
After the starter's pistol fired a swift opening to the race ensued, Peggy Hogan (Hampstead Harriers) went into the lead and after half of the first lap Hogan was followed by Maureen Conlan (Dartford Harriers), Gillian Tivey (Derby & County AC), P Sullivan (Westbury Harriers) and Joan Page (Cambridge Harriers). As the race progressed Peggy Hogan continued to build on her lead winning by 150 yards in 15:30. Maureen Conlan held off a challenge from Joan Page to take silver. Hogan, from Eire, was not allowed to count for her club because of her nationality, after the race she said "There is no women's cross-country in Eire and so I pay my own air fare to fly over for competitions."
