Graves Park in Sheffield hosted the nineteenth Junior English Cross-Country Championships. The hilly course was six miles in length.
Mike Tagg (Norfolk Gazelles) was 100 yards ahead after the first large lap. Roy Young (Hornchurch Harriers) passed David Atkin (Airedale & Spen Valley AC) and A Ashton (Reading AC) and tried to chase Tagg but Tagg just kept increasing his lead to win by 200 yards. Young finished 90 yards ahead of Cox who claimed third place ahead of Atkin.
