The twentieth Junior National Cross-Country Championships took place under blue skies at the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Society Showgrounds, Norwich.
John Rix (South London Harriers) set a brisk pace over the first mile before being overhauled by Mike Tagg (Norfolk Gazelles) as the race went out into the country. At the end of the first lap Tagg had an 80-yard lead from David Atkin (Airedale & Spen Valley AC) with Rix now third. Atkin subsequently retired, Tagg increased the gap on the second lap to win by 120 yards, second was Colin Moxsom (Woodford Green AC) with Frank Briscoe (Leigh Harriers) third.
