Witton Park in Blackburn, Lancashire hosted the inaugural girl's National Cross-Country Championships.

Ann Cherry (Fauldhouse Victoria AC) led from gun to tape to take this individual title. Linda Martin, running unattached chased Cherry all the way, but had to settle for second. Margaret Sonner (Watford Harriers) took the bronze. There was no team race.
