The thirty-first Youth's English Cross-Country Championships took place at Western Park, Leicester and was sponsored by Provincial Insurance Co Ltd.
Half a mile into the race Jeremy Lothian (City of Plymouth AC) led with the field strung out behind him. At the two mile point Lothian still led followed by Adrian Stewart (Watford Harriers), Nigel Martin (Bracknell AC) and Northern champion Stan Ogden (Warrington AC). At the end of the first lap Martin caught Lothian who then dropped out, Martin pressed ahead and led Ogden by 30 yards. Martin won by 50 yards from Ogden with Christopher Bunyan (Southampton & Eastleigh AC) third.
