The forty-fifth Senior Women's National Cross-Country was hosted at Birches Head, Stoke-on-Trent. The 5,100m course was described as hilly and was organised by City of Stoke AC.
On the day the course was muddy and some parts of the course this was ankle deep and many runners lost their spikes. Glynis Penny (Cambridge Harriers) led after half a mile and stayed in that position until the end, recording a time of 20:17 six seconds ahead of the title holder Ann Ford (Feltham AC). Third place went to Kathryn Binns, a 19-year-old London University student.
