The Intermediate Women's National Cross-Country Championship was held at Hughenden Park, High Wycombe over a 3,900m course. The 25-hectare park had the Hughenden stream running through the length of the park and bordered with Hughenden Manor owned by the National Trust. A record entry of 1,983 competitors across the four age groups had been received.
Sandra Arthurton (Leeds City AC) and Jo White (Mitcham AC) went into an early lead, 15-year-old Arthurton showed greater strength over the hills and went on to win by 70 metres from White with Ruth Bowers (Warrington AC) in third.
