Hughenden Park, High Wycombe on Saturday 25/02/1978 (Intermediates)

The Intermediate Women's National Cross-Country Championship was held at Hughenden Park, High Wycombe over a 3,900m course. The 25-hectare park had the Hughenden stream running through the length of the park and bordered with Hughenden Manor owned by the National Trust. A record entry of 1,983 competitors across the four age groups had been received.

Sandra Arthurton (Leeds City AC) and Jo White (Mitcham AC) went into an early lead, 15-year-old Arthurton showed greater strength over the hills and went on to win by 70 metres from White with Ruth Bowers (Warrington AC) in third.

The team race was close, with Sale Harriers beating Bristol AC by just seven points with Leeds City AC in third.
