The Girl's National Cross-Country Championship was held at Hughenden Park, High Wycombe. The 25-hectare park had the Hughenden stream running through the length of the park and bordered with Hughenden Manor owned by the National Trust. A record number of entries had been received for the championships. The course was 2985 metres in length.
After the first half mile Louise Silva (Melbourn AC) led Karen Hughes (Thurrock Harriers) by ten metres. Silva gradually pulled away from the field to win by 70 metres from Lynne MacDougall (Glasgow AC). Third place went to Brankin (Blackburn Harriers).
