Stopsley Sports Centre in Luton hosted the thirty-second Juniors Men's English National Cross-Country Race. The course consisted of two laps of three miles and included park land and plough. Temperatures were warm for the time of year but there was some wind. The event continued to grow in popularity and another record field participated.
Northern Champion Steve Binns (Bingley Harriers) led from the start and by the halfway point only Steve Parr (Gateshead Harriers) provided a challenge to Binns. Parr faded and David Beaver (Polytechnic Harriers), K Hick (Ilford AC) and Neil Black (Morpeth Harriers) steadily moved through to form a chasing pack. Binns won by 25 seconds with Beaver second, Hick third, Black fourth and Parr fifth.
