The Girl's National Cross-Country Championships took place at Warwick Racecourse. The course consisted of two large laps and was 3,000 metres in length.
At the end of the first lap Catherine Bennett (Bingley Harriers) was 15 metres ahead of the chasing pack comprising Rachel Jones (Blackpool & Fylde Harriers), Sheryl Cawood (Manchester & District Harriers), Una English (Havering AC) and Samantha Hicks (Leigh Harriers). Bennett continued to build her lead on the second lap and ran out a winner by 12 seconds from English with Jones third.
