Foots Cray Meadows, an area of parkland and woodland of 240 acres in size within the London Borough of Bexley, played host to the Girl's National Cross-Country Championships. The course was 3000 metres and consisted of one lap. Provincial Insurance Limited once again sponsored the event.
Southern champion Kate Foster (Bedford & County AC), Nicola Pearce (Thurrock Harriers), and Northern champion Charlotte Mayock (Rockingham AC) were first to show. After a kilometre Mayock had a 5 metre lead over Pearce with Foster 30 metres further back.
Mayock continued to increase her advantage and went on to win by eight seconds from Foster with Pearce third.
