Senneleys Park in Bartley Green, Birmingham hosted the Junior Girl's National Cross-Country Championships. The 200-acre park contains large expanses of short mown grass and woodland and is criss crossed by three streams. Provincial Insurance Limited sponsored the event.

Charlotte Mayock (Rockingham AC) successfully defended her Junior Girls' title with a fine display of front running. Mayock was almost caught at the end by Claire Allen (Leicester Coritanian AC) who fell at the start and had to spend the whole race passing athlete after athlete catching every runner except Mayock. Third place went to Paula Radcliffe (Bedford & County AC).

Radcliffe had the consolation of leading her club to team honours with a substantial win over Darlington Harriers with Bristol AC third.
