Witton Park, Blackburn in Lancashire hosted the Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championships. The two-lap course was 5,000 metres in length.
Heidi Moulder (Westbury Harriers) had a lead of 50 metres at the start of the second lap, Moulder was followed by Claire O'Connor (Oldham & Royton Harriers), Catherine Berry (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers) and Alice Braham (Parkside AC). On the last lap O'Connor converted a 50 metre deficit into a 50 metre victory. Braham overtook Moulder in the long finishing straight to take second.
Claire O'Connor told Athletics Weekly "The first lap was the hardest. At the start of the second lap, I seemed to be gaining on Heidi and I got to her on the hill."
