The Under 17 Women's National Cross-Country Championships took place at Wigmore Valley Park, Luton. This was the first joint male and female event in National Cross-Country history. The intermediate and junior races were combined.
Vicky Robinson (City of Stoke-on-Trent AC) crossed the line in eighth place and was unawre of her victory until she was handed the traditional red rose for a race winner. Robinson passed runner-up Claire Duncan (Liverpool Harriers) before the line and told Athletics Weekly "I've no idea where I passed her! I found the hills very hard, but just kept digging in."
