The English Cross-Country Championships returned to the showgrounds at Newark for the fourth time after visits in 1984, 1988 and 1992. This was the forty-ninth running of the Junior Men's event.
Matt O'Dowd (Swindon AC) won the individual race from Huw Lobb (Cambridge University Hare & Hounds) with Kevin Holland (Crawley AC) third.
Matt O'Dowd told Athletics Weekly: "I'd decided before the race the point I would try to get away. I knew I couldn't leave it too late so I'd decided I would try to go on the hill, no matter how I felt, because it's the only bit you can get away. But there was a very sticky patch which I hadn't walked before the race and I found it tough. Once I was on the firmer ground again I was moving quite well, but the important thing is I achieved what I came here to do."
