Roundhay Park on Saturday 14/03/1998 5 Km (Under 17 Women)

The Under 17 Women's English Cross-Country Championships took place at Roundhay Park in Leeds. Race highlights were shown the following day on Sky Sports. The race was sponsored by the sportswear company View From.

Jane Potter (Rushcliffe AC) timed her run to perfection to win by 16 seconds from Claire Campbell (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) with Hatti Dean (Radley Ladies AC) third.

Lyndsey Vernon in sixth place led Liverpool Harriers to victory in the team race, Aldershot, Farnham & District AC won silver and just two points further behind were Derby Ladies AC

Potter told Athletics Weekly "I just set out to try to keep up with the leaders, then I passed Lisa Samuels who won at Cheltenham and when I passed Nichola Coates [second at Cheltenham] as well I wondered if I had gone off too quickly."
