The Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championships took place at Stowe Park, Buckinghamshire, a National Trust property. The race was sponsored by sports company View From for the third consecutive year. The one lap 5km course consisted of farmland and included some challenging hills. There wasn't much mud on the course and the weather was fine.
Southern champion Caroline Walsh (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) led by 100 metres at the halfway stage from Emma Ward (City of Stoke-on-Trent AC). Walsh won in 17:06, 13 seconds clear of runner-up Walsh with Ruth Brown (Darlington Harriers) third.
