The Under 17 Women's English National Cross-Country took place for the first time as Aston Gate Estate, Bristol. The race was sponsored by View From.
Southern champion Katrina Wootton (Bedford & County AC) received a good luck message over the PA before the race from her coach Alex Stanton. Wootton gave an inspired performance as she led her under 17 rivals. AS the under 20 and under 17 race was combined Wootton finihsed fifth overall and seven seconds clear of runner-up Rachael Nathan (Lincoln Wellington AC). B Sanders (Saracens RC) picked up a bronze medal.
Wootton told Athletics Weekly "I was a bit tense because I got to the course very late, we didn't realise we had to take a shuttle bus and by the time we got to the course I didn't have time to walk it like I normally do. I had to have a quick warm-up and then rushed to the start. I was feeling pretty tense so it was really nice to hear the good luck message from Alex as I stood on the start line. I felt a lot better after that!"
