Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath, London hosted the Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championships. Shoe company Saucony became title sponsors of the event. The course was 5km.

First to show were Louise Damen (Bournemouth AC), Chloe Wilkinson (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers), Aine Hoban (Wakefield District Harriers) and Faye Fullerton (Havering AC). At the halfway stage Damen had established a lead of 100 metres and was never headed winning in 19:55. 41 seconds behind was Aine Hoban with Eleanor Baker (South London Harriers) in third.

Louise Damen told Athletics Weekly: "I wasn't that confident before today I'd had a cold all week and I felt worse going up that first hill. I started to feel good as a gap developed and I began to stretch out. It was great being in front and I wanted to savour the moment. This was a race I have wanted to win for a long time."

Team trophy winners in 1999, 2000 and 2001 Charnwood AC regained the title with a 27-point victory over defending champions Bristol AC. Third place went to Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.
