The English National Cross-Country Championships returned to Parliament Hill Fields after a gap of 10 years. This was the fifty-sixth running of the junior men's race and the event was sponsored by shoe company Saucony.
First to show were Mo Farah (Windsor, Slough, Eton, & Hounslow AC) and Tom Sharland (Ipswich Harriers). After the first lap Farah led by 30 metres from Matt Lole (Coventry Godiva Harriers), with Sam Jacobs (Ipswich Harriers) and Tom Humphries (Cannock & Stafford AC) 80 metres further adrift. With a mile to go Farah had extended his lead to 50 metres. Farah went on to win by 29 seconds from Lole with Humphries third.
