The English National Cross-Country took place at Temple Newsam in Leeds. This was the fifty-ninth running of the youth's race and was sponsored by Saucony. This was the first time the 1500-acre park had hosted the National. The 6km course consisted of farmland and parkland and included a few hills.
Kelvin Hardy (Ipswich Harriers) led for much of the first half of the race. Hardy was passed by Adam Hickey (Southend Harriers) at the halfway point. Robert Pickering (Bridlington Road Runners) also passed Hardy and tried to catch Hickey in the latter half of the race but was unable to do so and Hickey won by five seconds with Hardy third.
