Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath in London hosted the Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championships. The race was sponsored by Saucony and the course was 5km.
Defending champion Steph Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) was just inside the top 20 at the end of the charge up the first hill but came through to take victory in 17:56. Lauren Howarth (Leigh Harriers) was well clear in second and third under-20 home was Lily Partridge (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC).
Steph Twell told Athletics Weekly: "The course was just like a carpet of sogginess today. There's a big ditch at the back of the course and I remember falling over in it while leading the National during my early teens and I finished third. But then I came back the following year and won by first National title at Leeds." She added "I held back a little early on, but I waited until I got out to the woods before I started to stretch out, I loved it, the support on the course was amazing and because there was a race going on with Lauren it made it more exciting."
