Alton Towers hosted the sixty-fourth Junior Men's English Cross-Country Championships. The planned course was 10km and took place on parkland next to the park.
Jonny Hay (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) broke away on the last lap to win by 32 seconds from Richard Goodman (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) with Ben Connor (Derby & County AC) taking bronze.

Hay told Athletics Weekly: "I tried to push on and test Goodman a bit and I felt strong and made an effort to move away and he didn't come with me. I love a fast course, but it's cross country and you just have to deal with it."
Goodman had the consolation of leading Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers to the team gold after they defeated Derby & County AC by just seven points with Stroud & District AC third.
