Alton Towers hosted the Under 17 Women's English Cross-Country Championships. The event took place on parkland next to the park with a slightly adjusted route compared with the last visit to the theme park in 2008.

Southern champion Emelia Gorecka (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) won her fifth consecutive National title with Jess Judd (Chelmsford AC) 30 seconds adrfit. Annabel Gummow (Bristol & West AC) picked up a bronze medal.

Gorecka told Athletics Weekly "This was one of the hardest courses to run and to come away with a win is quite exciting. It was a challenge with the mud and the hills, but that's what we train to do. I'm always wary of others in the race as the other girls are so strong and I just wanted to come out and have the best race possible and I'm over the moon to get my fifth national title."
