Alton Towers hosted the sixty-sixth Youth's English Cross-Country Championships. The planned course was 6km and took place on parkland next to the park.
Southern champion Kieran Clements (Ipswich Harriers) led from the start and won by 25 seconds from Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC). Mark Shaw of New Marske Harriers picked up the bronze medal.

Clement told Athletics Weekly: "Steve [Benson, his coach] said 'this is your type of course and if it goes out slow, make it a 6km race, don't run 4km and then get outsprinted,' so I just hit it hard from the front. My view was that if people wanted to go with me they had to stay with my pace and I just held it for as long as I could."
