The Under 17 Women's English National Cross-Country Championships took place at Herrington Park, Sunderland. This was the second time that the former colliery had hosted the race after a visit in 2007.
A blizzard hit the northeast of England on the day of the race and runners and organisers arrived to find Herrington Country Park covered in three inches of snow and the first race of the day was the under 17 women.
Annabel Mason (Wakefield District Harriers) won by five seconds over Grace Baker (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) with Alex
Clay (Invicta East Kent AC) third.
Fell runner Mason told Athletics Weekly "I thought it was going to be nice and sunny today, but it's similar to fell running which is my main sport, so I felt at home."
