The sixty-eighth Youth's English National Cross-Country Championships took place at Herrington Park, Sunderland. This was the second time that the former colliery had hosted the race after a visit in 2007.
The course was covered in snow and this made the course both wet and muddy.
Adam Howard (Oldham & Royton Harriers & AC) won from Joe Steward (East Cheshire Harriers & Tameside AC) by 20 metres with Alex Carter (Team Bath AC) third.
Howard told Athletics Weekly: "It was good fun and I enjoyed it, although it was hard work. I was 20th at the start but slowly picked them off as the race unfolded."
