The Under 13 Girl's English National Cross-Country Championships were staged at Wollaton Park, Nottingham. The venue had been used many times for the inter-counties, but this was the first time for the 'National'.
Alex Brown (Herne Hill Harriers) was overtaken at the death by a fast-finishing Grace Goddard (Wimborne AC), the runners were given identical times but the judges voted in favour of Goddard. Josie Czura (Portsmouth AC) picked up the bronze medal.
Goddard told Athletics Weekly: "I didn't think I could catch her, it was just amazing. I can't believe I did it." and Brown said "I was really tired and I tried to sprint but she was better."
