The Under 13 Girl's English National Cross-Country Championships took place at Donington Park in Derbyshire. This was the first time that the venue had been used for the 'National'. The race was 12km in length and consisted of three laps plus the start and finish straights. Local farmers made their land available for the race and one of radish fields had a section turned over to allow the runners to pass through!
Southern champion Nicole Ainsworth (City of Portsmouth AC) moved away during the second half of the race to take individual gold. Runner-up was Morgan Squibb (Blackheath & Bromley Harriers). Lara Crawford (Sale Harriers) took the bronze.
Ainsworth told Athletics Weekly: "I'm really pleased. I always start slow but I came through. It was a great course."
