The seventy-first Youth's English National Cross-Country Championships took place at Donington Park in Leicester. This was the first time that the venue had been used for the 'National' and the first time the championships were held in Leicestershire since 1980. The race was 6km in length and consisted of two medium laps plus the start and finish straights. Local farmers made their land available for the race and one of radish fields had a section turned over to allow the runners to pass through.
Isaac Akers (Corby Town AAC), Scott Beattie (Morpeth Harriers), Hugo Milner (Derby & County AC), Ben Davies (Bedford & County AC) and Cameron Bell (Hallamshire Harriers) formed the initial leading group. Akers increased the tempo throughout the course and won in 19:28, 12 seconds clear of runner-up Beattie. Davies grabbed the bronze medal.
Akers told Athletics Weekly: "I felt easy, and I did try two or three surges, but he just kept coming back at me [Beattie], so I had to work for it."
