The Pheasey, Great Barr in Birmingham hosted the fifth Junior National Cross-Country Championships, the hilly and stony 6-mile course consisted of two large laps.


At the end of the first of lap Johnny Wild (East Cheshire Harriers) was 100 yards ahead of Peter Thompson (Manchester AC) who was followed by G D Ibbotson (Longwood H.), Basil Heatley (Coventry Godiva Harriers) and R G Beecroft (Clayton-Le-Moors Harriers). On the second lap Wild increased his lead all the way to cruise home 300 yards clear of Thompson with Heatley 80 yards further adrift.

In the team event great packing by Coventry Godiva Harriers gave Godiva a large margin of victory over East Cheshire Harriers with South London Harriers third. Holders Thames Valley Harriers were fourth.
