The fifteenth Junior English Cross-Country Championships took place at Stanley Park, Blackpool. The two-lap course was six miles in length.


David Bignell (Windsor & Eton AC) led early in the race with Tony Walker (North Staffordshire & Stone Harriers), Derek Graham (9th Old Boys, Belfast), Martin Heath (Cambridge University Hare & Hounds) and Tim Johnston (Portsmouth AC) close up. At the end of the first lap Heath had taken the lead with Johnston his closest rival. Heath went on to win in 32:12 and Graham passed Johnston to take the silver medal.


North Staffordshire & Stone Harriers took team honours beating Derby & County AC by 37 points, Thames Valley Harries were third.
