The Intermediate Women's National Cross-Country Championships were held at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath, London.
With 1 mile of the race to go the leading group consisted of Jane Barrass (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC), Monica Joyce (Crawley AC), Jill Williamson (Sale Harriers) and Anne Tunnicliffe (City of Stoke AC). Jane Barrass was the strongest on the run in crossing the line in 18:06, 15 metres clear of runner up Jill Williamson who just held off a challenge from Anne Tunnicliffe.
