The thirtieth Junior Men's English National Cross-Country Championships took place at Parliament Hill Fields in London and was sponsored by the Provisional Insurance Company Ltd. The championships attracted a record number of entrants, the weather was fine and the going firm.
Nat Muir (Shettleston Harriers) led Northern champion Nicky Lees (Derby & County AC) at the end of the first lap with Charles Marr (Chelmsford AC) 20 metres adrift followed by Mickey Morris (Cwmbran Olympiades AC), Robert Swann (Basingstoke AC) and John Mills (Gateshead Harriers).
Muir developed a stitch but continued to increase his lead on the second lap and ran out winner in 30:21. Nicky Lees grabbed runners-up spot with Robert Swann (Basingstoke AC) third.
