Maiden Castle, Durham hosted the Junior Women's National Cross-Country Championships. The 5km two lap course had challenging hills, the event was sponsored by View From.
By the end of the first lap Juliet Potter (Charnwood AC) had already established a lead of around 20 metres over Emma Ward (City of Stoke AC), with Louise Damen (Bournemouth AC) a further 40m back, Gemma Phillips (Kendal AAC) and Helen Bebbington (Royal Sutton Coldfield AC) were chasing the leading three. Potter, from Nottingham, eventually finished 15 seconds clear of Ward in a time of 18:02, with Gemma Phillips in third.
Juliet Potter told Athletics Weekly: "I started slowly but worked my way through.", Ward added "Juliet is in amazing form so I just tried to stick with her. I'm not a cross country runner really."
