The fifty-fifth Junior Men's English National Cross-Country took place for the first time as Aston Gate Estate, Bristol. The race was sponsored by View From. The junior men's course was 10km and was mostly flat but contained some uphill and downhill sections.
Lee McCash (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers), Andrew Sherman (Swindon Harriers) and Adam Bowden (Harrow AC) went into the lead on the first circuit. The leading trio were still together as they started the second lap but halfway around Sherman began to fade leaving McCash and Bowden to battle for the individual title. McCash increased the pace on the final part of the lap to win by 50 yards. Bowden picked up silver and Sherman bronze.
McCash told Athletics Weekly: "We were sharing the work, but I dug deep going down that hill, I've had a sprain in my left leg, but tried not to think of it. I didn't want to lose concentration."
