The fifty-ninth running of the Junior Men's English National Cross-Country Championships took place at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath, London. The event was sponsored for the fourth year on the run by Saucony. Since first putting on the race in 1957 Parliament Hill Fields had hosted the most 'Nationals' with nine.
Andy Vernon (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) started in the pack but on the second lap he went to the front and was never headed winning in 32:49, this was six seconds clear of Adam Hickey (Southend Harriers & AC) with Keith Gerrard (Manx Harriers) third.
Vernon told Athletics Weekly: "I was confident, I did come here to win."
