The Junior Women's Cross-Country Championships returned to Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath, London. Saucony continued their sponsorship of the event.
On the initial surge up Kite Hill Gemma Holloway (Thurrock Harriers) and Abbie Donnelly (Lincoln Wellington AC) led. Rebecca Murray (Bedford & County AC) was tucked in behind. By the time the race had reached the halfway stage Murray had a five-second lead over Grace Baker and Amy Griffiths both Aldershot, Farnham & District AC with Phoebe Law (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers), Holloway and Donnelly in the mix for the medals. Over the remainder of the race Murray maintained the lead winning in 22:48 from the fast-finishing Law by just three seconds. The bronze medal went to Amelia Pettitt (Vale Royal AC).
Murray told Athletics Weekly: "That's the best win I've ever had. I tried to push it on the hill and I broke away but I had to keep working throughout."
