The Junior Women's Cross-Country Championships returned to Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath, London. Saucony continued their sponsorship of the event.


On the initial surge up Kite Hill Gemma Holloway (Thurrock Harriers) and Abbie Donnelly (Lincoln Wellington AC) led. Rebecca Murray (Bedford & County AC) was tucked in behind. By the time the race had reached the halfway stage Murray had a five-second lead over Grace Baker and Amy Griffiths both Aldershot, Farnham & District AC with Phoebe Law (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers), Holloway and Donnelly in the mix for the medals. Over the remainder of the race Murray maintained the lead winning in 22:48 from the fast-finishing Law by just three seconds. The bronze medal went to Amelia Pettitt (Vale Royal AC).

Rebecca Murray (Bedford & County AC) leads in the Junior Women's race


Murray told Athletics Weekly: "That's the best win I've ever had. I tried to push it on the hill and I broke away but I had to keep working throughout."

Grace Baker, Amy Griffiths and Rebecca Howard team race winners


Aldershot, Farnham & District AC made it an amazing eight in a row in the team race with a narrow victory over Vale Royal AC. Aldershot had three in twenty-four and Vale Royal three in twenty six for a winning margin of just 4 points. Third place went to Tonbridge AC. Counters for Aldershot, Farnham & District AC were Grace Baker (4th), Amy Griffiths (6th) and Rebecca Howard (24th).
